Ribbon Onesies
Supplies Needed:
Onesie
2 sizes of Ribbon (one smaller, I used 1 1/2" & 3/8")
Sewing Machine
Thread (to match ribbon, and white in your bobbin)
Scissors & Lighter
Wonder-Under (Optional)
Instructions:
Take the larger ribbon that you plan to use and measure it against the front of your onesie. Cut it so that each end of the ribbon extends at least half an inch past each side of the onesie. Decide where you want your ribbon to set across the front of the onesie. Measure each side from under the arms to where you decide to place your ribbon. (I like my ribbon to be a little higher than center, so I measure down about an inch from the bottom of the arm curve.)
Make sure the ribbon looks good at the point you selected.
Turn the onesie inside out, and measure from the same point you did on the front, and cut a hole in the seam. Make sure it is big enough to fit the ribbon through.
Turn the onesie back to the right side and fit the end of your ribbon through the slit. (*You may use Wonder-Under here on the end of your ribbon and iron to hold it in place, while you turn, but this is not necessary).
Pull the ribbon across the front of the onesie to the hole in the opposite seam, and push it through, as well. (If using Wonder-Under iron).
Look at the shirt and make sure the ribbon is even all the way across.
Once you are satisfied with the results, flip onesie inside-out again.
This is how your ribbon will look on both sides.

Using the seam as a guide, straight stitch across to secure the ribbon
Trim the ribbon once it is secured, so it will be even with the serged part of the onesie.
Serge, over-cast, or zig-zag the edge where the ribbon now comes through to prevent fraying.
Repeat on the other side.
Now your ribbon is attached and if you want to safety pin the bows to the front or do not wish to add a bow, you may stop here.
Now, if you want to be able to mix and match and clip on bows, you will need to cut a length of your smaller ribbon. Make sure you cut enough to form a 'loop' that will go under the ribbon on the front of the shirt. Stick one end of the smaller ribbon under the ribbon now attached to the shirt, where ever you wish the bow to set. Using Wonder-Under (or a stick pin) to hold the smaller ribbon in place, and do the same thing to the other side, so that you will now have a kind of 'loop'.

Now, Sew each end of the little 'loop' in place to secure.
All done! That is all there is to it! This is such an easy project & with all the different varieties of ribbon and trim available, the options are endless! The little 'loop' lets you add variety by adding different bows to the front. Sew a black or white ribbon to the front of a plain onesie, and add a different bow to match any pants or skirt that your daughter has.
